Chop Chop | Why I Cut 10 Inches of My Hair Off

SURPRISE! 10 inches of my hair are all gone … to a good cause. I recently donated 10 (!!) inches of my hair to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program. I love this program because they are fairly lenient with donations (allowing color-treated hair, only 8 inches required, etc.) For many years, I have wanted to chop my hair. Yet, I have never been able to commit due to a really rough “bob” in third grade (lol). However, after brushing out my tangled tresses daily and blowdrying my hair for 30+ minutes a day, I knew it was time. The last straw was blowdrying my hair in Paris with the world’s worst hairdryer. I couldn’t take it anymore! And honestly? #noragrets.

Day one of the chop was really weird. I had been mentally preparing for a long time, but nothing could prepare me for the first cut. My stylist couldn’t have been more excited. She started talking to me while putting my hair into a ponytail, acting super normal and casual. Before I knew it, she was cutting my ponytail! Soon enough, it was in my hand. 10 inches gone, just like that.

Snap saw it first (hahaha). Seeing this was definitely scary!

Even after styling it, it took me some time to get used to the whole thing. I’ll admit that I wasn’t over the moon at first, just because I was so used to my super long hair. My hair hadn’t changed in over 5 years, so this was definitely significant. I liked it and didn’t regret it, but it just didn’t feel amazing like I thought it would. I missed the swish of my ponytail and being able to style my long hair into curls.

All chopped off and ready to go! I don’t know why but I literally thought carrying the hair around in the envelope was the funniest thing ever, I literally couldn’t stop laughing…I think I was just nervous.

Next, I scheduled another hair appointment. My stylist talked me into “getting my hair colored, just highlights, no big deal.” I was extremely nervous as I had never had my hair colored before. My hair had always been very blonde, but when I cut so much off I didn’t realize that the blondest part of my hair would be going with it. My stylist painted in light blonde highlights here and there, creating a natural look that wouldn’t grow out funky. Honestly, this is what sold me on my new ‘do. Once again, she styled my hair, and this time it was shiny and a much brighter blonde. She created that look I had always wanted.

After having it cut AND colored. It’s not drastic at all, but just enough!

The coloring made all the difference (plus, my cute pup helped!)

P.S. I’m wearing:

Kendra Scott Elisa Pendant in Rose Quartz

Zara Asymmetric Hem T-Shirt

Kenzie Ripped Jeans Mid Wash

Altar’d State Lace Up Sandals (link is similar)

Mantra Band Be True. Be You. Be Kind. Bracelet

Kendra Scott Druzy Pinch Bracelet (similar)

I absolutely love love love my haircut and wouldn’t change anything. Nothing has ever been more freeing than this haircut. In less than 10 minutes, it is styled and I’m out the door. I can’t believe how much time I used to spend doing my hair. For shampoo and conditioner, to keep my color looking nice, I am using the Chi Rose Hip Oil Color Nurture products. I am excited for it to grow out a little longer, so I am currently using Biotin Maximum Strength supplements to help the process. I couldn’t be happier with my decision, especially knowing that my hair will go to someone who has lost their hair due to their battle with cancer. If you are interested in donating your hair, check out Pantene’s website to see if you fit the requirements.
