Batching content has been a huge game changer for me as a content creator. What do I mean by batching content? Batching content is defined by Later.com as a productivity technique where you create all of your captions or visual content during a set period of time.
Prior to hearing about batching content, I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off! Between a full time job, social life, a long distance relationship, spending time with family, adulting for the first time, AND throwing a side hustle in content creation in, I was overwhelmed. I was often running home after work at 5:30 trying to shoot an outfit to turn into a brand that same day at dusk when the light was terrible. My content was suffering and I knew I needed to make a change. Enter batching content!
Batching Content Tips
The main way that I batch my content is through weekend photoshoots. I’ll typically dedicate about 3 hours most Sundays (trying to make this more of a bi-weekly thing) to creating a ton of images to be used on my Instagram.
Learning how to prep for a shoot has helped me level up my content and live a bit more stress-free. Here are some tips to help:
Plan a Time
Plan a date and time that you will dedicate time to taking photos. I usually shoot for about 2-3 hours but also plan time to get ready beforehand! If you are working with a photographer or having a friend shoot for you, be sure to coordinate the date with them in advance to ensure it works for their schedule.
Create a shot list
Make a list of everything you need to shoot. When I write out my list, I also write down any specific guidelines I need to incorporate into the shoot (props, visual cues, colors, etc.) Having my list and guidelines prepped allows me to ensure I won’t need to reshoot, as my content will already be within the brand’s standards.
Get Inspired!
Pinterest and Instagram are my two fave places to get ideas (occasionally Tik Tok too!) Find content that inspires you & create a mood board! I often make a folder for each shoot & save photos to it as a quick reference guide while shooting.
Prepare Your Outfits and Props
GET EVERYTHING READY! (including yourself) If you’re shooting outfits, try them on ahead of time & lay them out so you can quick change if you need to! I steam everything before I head out. Once I’m ready to go, I bring my outfits on hangers in the car with accessories & shoes paired so I can quick change between locations – yes, in my car!
Scout Locations
You don’t physically need to go there before hand, but have some ideas in mind of cool spots around your city! I’ll usually look through Instagram to get ideas for this.
I hope these tips helps you prep for a shoot and batch content like a pro!
