How I Prep for a Photo Shoot

There’s been many days where I’m REEAAAALLYY not feeling like taking photos. One thing that has really helped me is preparation! When I first started, I’d try to find 15 mins here or there to shoot & try to get everything done then. I’d always find myself frustrated as the pics never turned out how I’d hoped. Learning how to prep for a shoot has helped me level up my content and live a bit more stress-free. Here are some tips to help:⁣

1. TIME! Plan a day that you will dedicate time to taking photos. I usually shoot for about 1.5 hours but also plan time to get ready beforehand!⁣

2. LIST! Make a list of everything you need to shoot.

3. PHOTOGRAPHY! Coordinate with your photographer & find time that works for both of you – this could be a professional, a friend, your mom, a tripod (no scheduling conflicts there)⁣.

4. GET EVERYTHING READY! (including yourself) If you’re shooting outfits, try them on ahead of time & lay them out so you can quick change if you need to! I bring mine on hangers in the car with accessories & shoes paired so I can quick change between locations – yes, in my car.

5. INSPO! Pinterest and Instagram are my two fave places to get ideas (occasionally Tik Tok too!) Find content that inspires you & create a mood board! I often make a folder for each shoot & save photos to it as a quick reference guide while shooting.

6. SCOUT LOCATIONS! You don’t physically need to go there before hand, but have some ideas in mind of cool spots around your city! I’ll usually look through Instagram to get ideas for this.

I hope these tips helps you prep for a shoot!
