I WISH that I discovered Pinterest for Business earlier in my blogging career. Pinterest is such an amazing platform for driving growth and page views for your website and social media channels. If you bring a little Pinterest strategy to your boards and pins, it can make a world of difference in your views!
I remember using Pinterest for fun in high school to save recipes, dream wedding plans, home decor, and my favorite preppy clothing items (it was 2013 y’all). Not only has my style changed drastically, but so has the Pinterest platform.
Pinterest for Business is incredibly easy to use. I love that I’m able to view analytics and see post performance in real-time. This helps me to know that my Pinterest strategy is working! You can even advertise your business by boosting pins. I truly believe every business should be using Pinterest to drive more page views for their website and content.
When trying to boost your page views with Pinterest for Business, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind. Today, I’ve rounded up my top 5 tips for optimizing your content with Pinterest strategy and growing your views. My view count grew from 0 to 85,000 in just a month with these simple tips!
My #1 Pinterest Strategy: Create Graphics Using Canva for Each Post
One of my favorite tasks when putting together a blog post is creating a cover photo that drives interest for the post. Pinterest is HIGHLY VISUAL. You’ll want to put together a graphic that not only looks nice, but also describes what your content is. This small tweak has made a huge difference in my Pinterest strategy and website views as a result.
Canva is my go-to platform for creating images for Pinterest. I create the images in the vertical format. Pinterest prioritizes vertical images over horizontal ones. Using Canva for Pinterest photos is easy, as they have many pre-made layouts designed specifically for Pinterest. This post details the optimal dimensions for Pinterest photos to ensure your post is viewed by more potential readers.
Video Content is Optimized – Share, Share, Share!
Video content is all the rage in the social media marketing community right now, from TikTok to Instagram Reels. Pinterest functions in a similar manner. Video content is prioritized on Pinterest. There is actually increased visibility with each video pin, as they are often displayed at the top of search results.
Video views are rapidly increasing on Pinterest each year. This post from Later stated that “The number of video views on Pinterest last year grew more than 6x compared to 2018. Views of organic video Pin are up 240% year on year—particularly driven by food and beverage, beauty, DIY, entertainment, and home decor.”
Pinterest also lets you categorize video pins with tags. While standard static posts allow for the use of hashtags, video pins can be sorted even further. This allows your video pins to be seen in the right places when users search Pinterest. Below are the screens you see ONLY when sharing video pins. Pinterest allows you to search and pick from pre-determined topics here:
I have personally noticed far more growth on my video pins than my standard posts on Pinterest. Every time I share a video pin, my monthly views jump by the thousands. One thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes I’ll spend hours putting together a video for TikTok or Instagram Reels and it’ll TANK. Then, I’ll put it on Pinterest and it’ll quickly become one of my most-saved pins. I like that I can repurpose my content on Pinterest as it can have a whole new life after I’ve already shared on my main social media channels.
Pin Every Photo From Each Blog Post You Write
Every time I hit publish on a blog post, I immediately head over to Pinterest to pin all the graphics from that post. The process is actually pretty easy as you can pin up to 10 associated images at once.
Here are the steps to easily pin multiple images at once:
Click “Create a Pin” and “Save from Site” button.
Paste your blog post link in.
You’ll have the option to pin any images associated with the blog post from your website.
Select each image – you can choose up to 10.
Add in your title, description, and any related tags. Then, copy and paste to each of the 10 images. Pick a board and hit publish
Pick a board and hit publish. Your final pin should look like this:
Re-share and Re-pin Content
One of the key things I like to do for my Pinterest strategy is re-share my content. The beauty of Pinterest is that you can re-pin your posts as often as you’d like. Following the process I detailed above, I pin all of my blog posts to Pinterest at least on to a board title “on the blog.” From here, I typically re-pin the content to my applicable boards, “how to style a bamboo bag” post to fashion, my “Sarasota Modern staycation” post to my travel board, and so on. You can even re-pin to group boards – this is something I need to explore a bit but I have heard great things about growth through group boards.
Optimize Your Bio with Search Terms for Pinterest Strategy
Since Pinterest is basically a search engine, you’ll want to make sure you’re optimizing both your posts and your bio with strategic keywords. Below in my bio, you can see I’ve chosen key phrases like “blonde balayage” and “beach aesthetic.” Using these key phrases in my bio allows my profile to come up when others search those terms. Being specific with these terms also allows Pinterest to understand the types of content I publish. This Pinterest strategy helps their algorithm to present my content to the right types of readers.
I found these tags by searching items related to my brand and seeing what key terms popped up in the pins displayed. For example, I search blonde and found that blonde balayage seemed to be the main search when referencing blonde hair. Instead of style, I opted for casual outfits as it seemed most viewers were looking for outfits for their standard day-to-day. Instead of just travel, I chose travel inspiration and often, those with wanderlust search for fun instead of with a clear destination in mind.
