Giveaways can be an amazing tool for growth but they can also be a total FLOP. Have you ever felt taken advantage of when you’ve participated in a giveaway or like you wasted your money by joining in? I have too! That’s why I wanted to put a list of items together for YOU to keep in mind when making the decision to participate in a giveaway. I’ve also prepped a list of questions that you should ASK when you’re interested in joining a giveaway – you’ll want to save this one for sure!
Here are a few things I keep in mind when deciding to join a giveaway:
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
I mean this in two ways. The first, is that GIVEAWAY FATIGUE is real. Have you ever followed someone that posts giveaways all the time?! They start to lose their charm. I like to be SUPER SELECTIVE with the ones I take part in.
The next way I mean this is how many people are involved in the giveaway? Would you want to follow 50 random accounts? I wouldn’t. I prefer to limit my participation in giveaways to those with 10 participants or less.
DELIVERABLE TYPE
What are the posting requirements? Is it 3 Instagram posts in a row and stories every day of the gifting? Don’t bite off more than you can chew! My favorite type of gifting to participate in is a stories-only one – that way I can share my scheduled content and still bring value to my audience with my posts.
NICHE
Consider your partners in the giveaways you participate in. I like to partner with others who have content that I truly value. I only like to partner with individuals that I would enjoy following myself. I try to remain within my niche – for example, I likely wouldn’t partner with a bunch of fitness bloggers as my audience wouldn’t necessarily relate to their content.
PRIZE
Would you want to win the prize that is being offered? if not, don’t participate! You also want to keep the prize related to your type of content and what your audience has come to know to expect from you. For example, it might be good for a fashion blogger to gift a Nordstrom gift card, or for a travel blogger to gift a free trip.
