Hey you! Yes, you! Let’s get a game plan together for 2021! Today, I’m sharing my content creation planning process and providing you a FREE MONTH plan to help you get started on yours! I also have my full 2020 content calendar available FOR YOU today!
Writing in Brand Collaborations
I start my planning my brand collaborations for the month. I write in any dates I’ve agreed to post for brands for that month. Then, I pencil in any due dates for each of those brand collaborations, so I know when my content is due.
Regularly Scheduled Content or Series
Each Thursday, I share my Tip Thursday post. Since I know that I regularly share this content, I write in my blog post idea for each Tip Thursday for that month. That way, I know those Thursdays are booked up, and to not schedule any other content that day.
On Mondays, I know that I like to post a “weekly catch up” on stories, highlighting posts from last week. I write a reminder in my planner to ensure that I remember to share this content as well.
Posting about a certain topic consistently can make planning easier for you. This article from Later cites series-based content as “a great way to ensure you have new content to post on a periodic basis is to develop a new content series.” Consistent content or series can also help boost engagement on your page. My Tip Thursday posts help to keep my audience engaged and to set me apart as a content creator.
Photo Series
Something I want to incorporate in 2021 are more photo series! I love when bloggers will post a series of related photos over a number of days. I have plans to release a few different series in 2021 – any guesses on what they’ll be?
If you do have plans to release a series, you’ll need to carve out some time to post your series, uninterrupted. If you are going to post 7 photos, you’ll need to find a week that you can share those photos, without any conflicting brand sponsorships or scheduled posts.
Here are some examples of great photo series!
Colorado-based @leisurely.layne shared an awesome series recently. Her focus was on “mountains throughout the decade.” She centered her content around the decades, sharing fun facts in each caption about each era!
Florida-based @thinkgypsy did a great series surrounding COLOR! Each day was dedicated to one color of the rainbow. Turned out so fun! She regularly incorporates color into her feed, sometimes sharing three posts in a row in purple, then three in blue, and so on! Keeps her feed looking fresh and creative!
Seattle-based @maycrayy has TONS of creative content, but I love that she creates fun crowns with different items! Here are a few of my favorites:
Seasonal Content
For each month, I like to think about fun, seasonal content to incorporate into my feed! In January, I’m thinking cooler tones like whites and blues. For February I love a pop of pink and red for Valentine’s Day! In March, there’s St. Patrick’s Day and the beginning of spring – think green tones and florals.
April and May mean light pastels for me, bringing in pops of color to usher in summer content. June and July look like bright pops of colors, swimsuits, beaches, and popsicles! There’s the Fourth of July, so a chance to incorporate some fun patriotic content, with sparklers and fireworks.
In August, the transition to fall begins, as well as back-to-school shopping. September, October, and November are going to be those bright oranges and reds, fall leaves, and cozy scenes. October presents the opportunity to pose with pumpkins or share Halloween costume ideas!
Come November, the transition is already beginning for all things holiday. By December, my feed is FULL of red, white, and green tones, with snow, gifts, stockings, and hot cocoa!
Each month presents an opportunity to create content around a theme. Write these ideas down each month! Doing this helps me to come up with content ideas to keep my posts engaging for my audience.
Social Media Holidays
Ever heard of National Cheese Day? Or National Margarita Day? Maybe even International Coffee Day? These holidays have been designed FOR SOCIAL MEDIA! Meaning each one presents a unique opportunity to share a fun post dedicated to that day. And, you can use the hashtag for each day for greater exposure!
Grab a donut and pose for National Donut Day! Host a Starbucks giveaway for International Coffee Day! Share your favorite Trader Joe’s wine on National Drink Wine Day! These social media holidays are one of my favorite ways to plan out content for the year. I pencil them in my planner and create content around the theme of each day!
This brings me to the best part of this blog post – *drum roll please!* I’m releasing my 2021 CONTENT CALENDAR, featuring over 115 social media holidays! I’m also throwing in a list of social media weeks and social media months for each month. To top it off, I’m sharing a few EXCLUSIVE content ideas for each month to help kickstart your content planning!
