If you read my most recent post about St. Pete’s murals, you would know that St. Pete is home to an awesome artist community and that our streets are practically an art museum! Since my first post about our murals received an outpouring of love, I decided to do a St. Pete’s Most Instagrammable Murals | Part Two! Keep on reading to discover some of St. Pete’s most photo-worthy spots, inspiration behind the artwork, and where each mural is located.
Flower Mural | The Flower Centre
I’ve shot here so many times I’ve lost count! I love all of the beautiful colors and flowers. I feel like I’ve taken so many different photos given all of the angles that are available here. Sadly, I couldn’t find much info on the artist online, but please share if you know more!
Located at: 2500 9th Street North
Retro Motels Mural | Sun State Yoga
An oldie, but a goodie. I’ve shot here quite a few times and I love it because this mural is so freakin’ cute. It’s all old-Florida retro vibes, with a ’50s style motel building and some sunny palm trees. My favorite part is the sign that reads “All are welcome!” This mural was created by J&S Signs, a local St. Petersburg company focused on vintage hand-lettering.
This mural is located at: 553 9th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
Fish Mural
When you first look at this mural, you see a pattern and if you’re like me you try to figure out what you’re looking at. You might soon realize that this giant wall is covered in FISH! Designed by Portugeuse artist, Pantónio, this is one of the largest murals I’ve seen in St. Pete. I love shooting here as up-close, the fish can blend into a nice sea-green background. From far away, the shot has a lot more drama and you can see the fish clearly!
Located at: 1950 1st Ave N St. Petersburg, FL
Stick With What You Love
What’s super cool about this mural is you can actually add to it – grab some stickers and help make St. Pete weird! This mural was designed by Chad Mize, a local multimedia artist with many recognizable murals around town!
It is located in front of Hawker’s, 1235 Central Ave, St. Petersburg, FL 33705.
Colorful Faces Mural
I love way this mural looks for a photo opp – all the bright colors against the white background just make the photo! But my favorite part of this mural is taking a closer look. The mural features a bunch of figures in different colors, each individual paired with a phrase. Reading through some of the phrases can be really fun – I could stare at this one for hours. The artwork was done by Stephen Palladino, a Los Angeles-based artist who’s work has been commissioned by Lady Gaga and the NBA.
Located at: 276 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St N – P.S. this parking lot features two other awesome murals! The blue one is one of my personal favorites, I’m excited to shoot there at some point. I loved reading more about it and the inspiration behind it – check out Morning Breath Inc.
Angels and Demons | St. Pete History
Designed by artist Derek Donnelly, this mural depicts Peter Demens, one of St. Pete’s “founding fathers.” The mural also pays tribute to the Native American population that lived here long before St. Pete was developed.
This mural is located at: 2600 9th St. St. Petersburg, FL, outside of Cut-Ups Hair Salon.
Colorful Swirl Mural
Sadly, I can’t find a lot of info on this mural, but it is definitely a hidden gem! This mural is hidden on the wall of a parking lot, but can definitely be a good photo spot if you seek it out.
Located at: 2920 Dr M.L.K. Jr St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33704
I hope you enjoyed some our most Instagrammable murals. Let me know which was your favorite!
